I live nine years in Taipei and went to Holiday KTV for only 5 times. I love singing but the songs do not like me at all that's why I only end up listening to friends :) Kidding aside, Holiday KTV is the only KTV I ever visited.

It's a nice big room to hang up with friends and sing and dance along whatever music we have.

It's a family hang up not only to sing and dance, but also eat all you can snacks for everyone!

I'm having cappuccino in this paper cup with its summer theme while reading a novel I bought yesterday.

After reading and watching Eat, Pray, Love. I want to find out what happen to Liz and Felipe since their romance happened in Bali, Indonesia. Felipe is from Brazil but Australian Citizen and Liz is from America. I'm now reading the 3rd chapter.

I'm feeling... let me say worried, I'm studying too much Chinese, sometimes I forget to translate or even explain a situation in English. I think I'm going back to my reading habit.

On my mind is what to bring in potluck on Sunday. We have a little gathering in our church to celebrate Mother's Day.

Danshui in Ordinary Day

Overlooking Bali (pronounce as Pali)

This is how Danshui looks like in an ordinary day specially during winter.

The place is gloomy! Usually, we come here to see the sunset and spend time

walking around the night market while munching.

Even this boat is just waiting here for passengers to go to Bali.

On weekends, the boat leaves every now and then,

but for this day not much wants to ride.

Finally, after 30 minutes, the boat is off to the opposite shore.

The favorite corner of people strolling around here,

now it looks like we can play bowling.

A Cable Journey to the Sky

Eyes of Maokong Gondola

One of the tourist destinations in Southern Tip of Taipei is Maokong. It became more famous after constructing the Maokong Gondola in 2005 and operated by 2007. The first and highest- altitude Gondola with the elevation from 24.1m to 299.3m, and makes a circuit of four stations.

Taipei Zoo Station

First Station is the Taipei Zoo Station. The most accessible to come here is to take the MRT (Metro) from Taipei, visit Taipei Zoo, or take a bus to a nearest place like Pingxi (Sky Lantern) or Shenkeng (Tofu Street).

Second Station is the Taipei Zoo South Station. I still don't know what to see, maybe for hikers.

The third station is the Zhinan Temple Station. I've been to Zhinan Temple several times, but never been to the other side to some palace.

The last station is the Maokong Station. Maokong has a very nice scenery, lots of tea houses, and trails.

That's me! Enjoying the Eyes of Maokong from the glass floor of Gondola. It's a bit scary to look down. There are two kinds of Gondola, the ordinary one with 8 seats and the glass floor for only 4 persons. It runs in a counterclockwise direction. The cable diameter is 52mm and the pitch of cable is 6.1m. One way ticket to final destination is NT$50 (about US$2).

M is for Maokong in Muzha

Maokong Gondola Station

When taking Maokong Gondola (Cable), the last stop is Maokong Station. Maokong is located in the Southeast corner of Taipei City. Literally, Maokong means "Cat's Hollows". But it has nothing to do with cats. The place is a mountain ranges with its beautiful scenery, and its tea plantation.

What to do in Maokong?

Tea Drinking in Maokong

There are about 70 Tea Houses in 3 zones (yellow, blue, red) in Maokong.

Visiting Temples in Maokong

There are several temples in the area, the photo above is the Zhinan Temple in Red Zone.

Appreciating Tea in Maokong

Maokong has also several Tea Promotion Centers teaching the tourists the differences, the process, and benefits of tea drinking. They also offer free taste of their tea specialization.

Hiking in Maokong

Aside from taking the Maokong Gondola, some people come here for hiking. The whole family can also spend all day walking in Taipei Zoo.

Weekend Food Tour: Taiwanese Spring Roll

April 5, 2011 is Tomb Sweeping Day here ( 清明節/清明节 or Ching Ming Festival) . Literally, Ching Ming means Spring (pure and bright). Spring roll is associated with this festival, it is offered during Tomb Sweeping Day. The story that handed down to this generation~spring roll is the cheapest, easiest, and tastiest food that they can offer to those who passed away during the war.

Here are the ingredients~sausage, boiled pork, carrot, cabbage, peanut powder with sugar, eggs, green vege, garlic powder, spring roll wrapper. The ingredients should be 13 in all, I think we only had 9. The meat was just sliced into cube and boiled. The flavoring was only powdered peanut and sugar or simply garlic powder.

Some students volunteered to do the cooking, while I'm busy taking photos :)

The fun part, all of us wrapped our own spring roll in whatever we want :)

One of our favorite parks to hang out during our graduate student days.

We used to sit and play around in this red loop, and going to the end left is used to be our office (International Human Resources) were I spent so much time for my Business Algebra :(. I'm glad I had a helpful classmate from Romania :)

Near this park is National Taiwan Normal University (actually the name Shida is the short name of our school~Shi Fan Da Xue) and Shida Night Market. Around the vicinity are places to eat, we used to explore all kinds of restaurant around the world (with a little bit transition), for students' price!

I'm having a cappuccino in a paper cup as usual in Chinese Class. We're having summer and winter in a spring, that's why a lot of people here are getting sick.

I'm feeling alright, a bit excited for the upcoming visit of hubby here next week. I have to lessen my on-line blogging for a while, at the same time it's my finals in Chinese Class.

On my mind is our upcoming trip to the famous Taroko Gorge in the middle of Taiwan. I booked our tickets on-line and haven't received the voucher yet. I hope the travel agent wouldn't cancel it. (Maybe they can't have their quota).

I had an appointment at the hospital last week and I came there a bit early so I decided to capture this park. At the back of the OPT Department is the 228 (February 28) Peace Park. The park is just right NTU Hospital MRT Station. Here's a glimpse...

There are four Chinese Gazebos and in the middle is the Pagoda. Behind these Chinese architecture is the National Taiwan University Hospital Out Patient Department.

There are also a lot of squirrels and doves. They are not afraid of people, actually, they come nearer like looking for food. Here's one I captured eating red tomato.

Our shadows were taken at CKS Memorial Hall when we watched the Luminarie (Light Shows). We didn't actually went inside the show, we were on top of the hall and just watched from outside. Those dancing lights made us play with our shadows :)

I'm having cappuccino in a paper cup and purple rice. I'm actually in the digital/library room in basement 4 in our school doing my on-line Chinese test. I didn't finish the test since the computer wasn't cooperating this morning. I just have to take test before the deadline on Tuesday. Yes, we're allowed to eat in the room :)

I'm feeling good since Spring is here and that's my favorite time of the year. But it has been raining since Monday and temperature went down (seems like winter again). I did enjoy some of the places with blooming flowers all over.

On my mind, well, nothing much. I don't think much of the future now, I'm just living one day at a time and enjoying the "now".

For me, Life is too short to be worried with little things...

Aside from blooming flowers, what I love about Yangmingshan (Yang Ming Mountain Park) is surrounded with water. The place is not only refreshing for the eyes, the sound of the water is also refreshing to the ears. Here are some water I captured from Flower Festival 2011.

The museum (free admission) called “The Red Playhouse” or “Red Theater” (紅樓劇院). It was built in 1908. It’s known to be as the “market octagon” .

The first floor now was converted into a small café and shops with some revitalized relics of the island.

The second floor is use for monthly exhibit.

This is my favorite place in town because of its convenient. The place that connects in every part of Taiwan. The building upstairs has a lot of International Cuisine, lobby has its own post office, store, and so on. My entry post for City Daily Photo Theme for March - Favorite Place in Town.

Yang Ming Shan Flower Festival

I went to Yang Ming Shan (Mountain) Park, Taipei's backyard garden on its Annual Festival that started last February 18 until March 20. Although the Cherry Blossoms aren't in full bloom yet. I just grabbed the opportunity to visit since the weather is nice. There were lots of tourists today, and I had a hard time taking photos without any single person.

The posters and their shadows highlighting the most popular flowers in Yangmingshan, I didn't bother to look. It's my long weekend, I don't want to have headache reading those Chinese characters :)

The famous Clock Garden on its white and purple this year, surrounded with cherry blossoms. The clock has music every 30 minutes. I would say the place is surrounded with pink and purple.

The fountain, most of the cherry blossom trees aren't really in bloom. If given the chance, I'll visit the place again next week. This is the place I took my previous post ~ Flowers and Fountain.

I met an old man (photographer), and told me take photo of this wall. Actually, I was standing right in the middle and I guess it would be better if I'm not in there :)

Just few close up, the weather forecast said it's about 17-21 *C. I was sweating when I looked at the temperature it was 27*C seems like summer in spring.

I had difficulty shooting this small cross bridge, people kept on passing by and mostly, they would stand right in the middle to take their picture.

Why are Flamingos Pink?

I received a forwarded e-mail about eating too much carrots will turn your skin orange. That reminds me of why flamingos have their pinkish or redish in color. Just because of what they eat, the beta-carotene that is also available in carrots. Now, I remember the French phrase:

"You are What You Eat"

"Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es."

[Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are].

Peace and Smile for the Weekend

I'm having coffee with full of cream (I regret) earlier. I visited The Red House (A Western-style red brick structure in Taipei's Ximinting built in 1908) after my Mandarin class. Yes, I just had breakfast at 12 noon :)

I'm feeling, well excited! It's long weekend for us. February 28, Monday is holiday commemorating the heroes of 228 Peace history of Taiwan.

On my mind are places to visit, my plans are to go to Yang Ming Mountain for Spring Flower Festival, watch film~The Black Swan, and foot massage. We deserve to be pampered once in a while :)

Bunnies Lantern Festival (Day Time)

I've been posting the Taipei's Lantern Festival for the past few days, how a glimpse of how they look like at day time. I look at them closely, I found out that they're made of colorful velvet cloth materials. Although they look beautiful, still I preferred to look at them at night.

Amazing how they presented all of these, day and night, rain or shine!

Here's the Elementary and Middle School section,
some are made of recycled materials.

"Around" is one of the Public Arts in Taipei Metro in the glass windows of concourse level in Kunyang Station, MRT Blue Line (Nangang~Banqiao~Tucheng Line). I don't know why the title is "Around", I guess because all the walls are surrounded with these shadows.

I'll be back one day to shoot the windows at night :)

PingXi Sky Lantern Festival

Sky Lantern Festival is held every year at Ping Xi (平溪) Taipei County. I'm so happy to revisit the place for the 3rd time, even though the weather was so cold and rainy that night. We're the last one to fly the sky lantern and I guess we're lucky enough to join without lining up :) Below are two ten seconds video clips. Enjoy.

February 17 is the last day celebration of Chinese New Year, and its celebrated of lighting/flying of lanterns. Eating Tang Yuan or Glutinous Rice Ball Soup.

Happy Lantern Festival!

I'ts not a tea or coffee that we're having for today. In those paper cups are called Tang Yuan 湯圓 or Round Glutinous Rice Soup with Black/Red Beans. The roundness of the glutinous rice symbolize the 15th day of Lunar New Year , the first full moon, and the family wholeness.

I'm feeling bloated after eating those heavy balls, the taste is not much sweet. Today ends the celebration of Chinese New Year, and I'm sharing with you our activities in school. Aside from Glutinous Ball Soup, another tradition is the Lantern Festival. Here in Taipei, lots of lanterns are displayed throughout the city featuring whatever Zodiac Sign for the year. There's one place place here called Ping Xi, famous in
Flying Paper Sky Lantern into the night sky. In school, we made lantern craft that, see what I did below:)

On my mind, since it's officially Spring in here, I'm planning to visit places with lots of Cherry Blossoms. Not only appreciating the blooms but also time to stretch my legs for a bit walking, smell the freshness of air.
